Chromecast Audio

Post by castalla »

Just installed Chromecast Audio + LMS Castbridge plugin = another squeezebox player! Excellent sound quality.

39 euro value!

That's useful to know, I didn't know that plugin existed. I bought CCA for both my Stepdad and my Dad, but I don't have one myself yet. I'm waiting for the price to drop again as 30 quid is a bit steep I think and I have jogglers galore already.

There's also the UPnPBridge plugin - more fiddly to configure unless you have one of the approved devices (which include all the Sonos speakers).

I have 2 Sonos Play1 (paired) as a squeezebox, and a Pioneer xm-sma1 speaker as a squeezebox (which is pretty useless as a native dlna speaker). Super sound quality and the Joggler works a treat as the visual controller.

Why anyone struggles on with all the proprietary (smartphone) solutions beats me when LMS is so flexible!

The full Chromecast connects to your telly via an HDMI connection and streams video. The Chromecast Audio connects to a hifi or powered speaker and streams audio only. I think.

Audio is audio-only via rca or optical out.

chromecast video is both audio & video via hdmi

Both work with the plugin

no - sync is not supported.

You can sync CCA players

You can also squeezebox other chromecast devices - all of which are pretty expensive.
