Re: Bricked it....
D'oh! Scratch all the above, I've got it going now. Looks like I was following some old/out of date instructions on using a powered hub (which I haven't had to do very often), and as a result was getting the typed commands slightly wrong. Anyway, I seem to be back up with PnP III. Hurrah! As penance...

Re: Bricked it....
Sorry, this perhaps should be a new thread, but I didn't want to start a new 'unbricking my Joggler' Thread... I broke my stalwart Joggler a week or so ago - it seems to be prone to hanging when running iPlayer/YouTube, and I may have reconnected the power too few seconds after powering it down; thi...

Re: Check these - Now Back
I bought a couple of these last week and they have just been delivered FWIW. I was a bit dubious about the supposed dispatch time - bought (for 8-50 each plus postage IIRC) at around 8pm, got an 'the items have been dispatch' email by about 9:30 that evening, which I didn't really believe. However t...

updating Angry Birds on the Joggler...
Hi all - apologies for the mildly OT posting... My Granddaughter (4 1/2 years) enjoys trying to play Angry Birds on my PnP III Joggler (thanks to offbeatdave and all!). However she often hits a popup box which shows a URL to copy etc. to download an updated version of AB. Having this popup box preve...

Re: PnP III: Enhance the standard OS - DOWNLOAD v3.31 HERE!
Hi Pete Jon, Just updated a "new" Joggler with new FW and PNP3. I do have a Squeezebox server running on my MythTV box. I'll leave it playing radio for a couple of days. Do you have any suggestions for what else I can try here? I do have it connected on the test work bench via Gb. I can co...

Re: PnP III: Enhance the standard OS - DOWNLOAD v3.31 HERE!
Hi there I'm running PnP III on a Joggler with a hardwired small external USB DAC. It connects wirelessly to my HP Microserver via a Draytek Wireless Router. Connectivity is good. I've recently actually started using the Squeezeplayer app for longer periods of time than just 'a few tunes for the gra...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete Yes, I am going to play with the MMC memory on the non-booting Joggler at some point. I did so, a little, a while ago, but will try again in anger next time. I used 'badblocks' to check for errors IIRC, but there are probably other linux facilities for testing such memory. Re. USB modes and ...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete (the 'varying a bit) referred to those flexi PCBs. On some bits of HW they are east to replace/refit; on some, it's 50/50 whether you damage things irreparably). FWIW I have ended up remaking the external DAC hard-wiring mod onto a second Joggler. This one has continued to boot & re-flas...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete Swapping the chips did prove though that both EFI boot chips are sound though eh? It will when I confirm that the 'booting' joggler still boots OK with the EFI chip taken from the 'non-booting' Joggler - I didn't get around to that... I've had that little zif flexistrip strip used for sound ...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete Just a guess but maybe the good EFI chip from another Joggler plus removing the DAC mods (all four wires) may help some. Yeah- tried this last night but no joy, the Joggler still sits on the OpenPeak logo ;-( I have enough to do some transplanting; anyone swapped the case rear between units?...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete What USB mods have you done with your Joggler? I added two things: 1) an external USB socket, on the same side as the standard one, but near the top of the case rather than the bottom. Rather like this: http://www.justblair.co.uk/extending-the-jogglers-usb-capabilities.html 2) I have hard-wi...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete You have to do the chip swap live. "hot swap".. Oh, I did it live alright. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to boot up the Joggler, shurely? ;-/ Perhaps I didn't spell out the steps I followed very clearly, but after the 2nd boot, and while the Joggler was powered up, I swapped ...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hmm - I finally got around to trying to write to a new EFI flash chip today... I bought a couple of flash chips from eBay and went through this procedure: - booted into Mint Linux on a good Joggler with a keyboard connected - opened up a sudo terminal - mounted a pendrive with (Pete's) original-efi....

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete I was able to do a modprobe fh with Buzz's Mint Linux the other day. Thing is too once I am at the seabios/coreboot bios then there is a legacy F function to read/write a new bios which is really fast. You don't have to telnet/ssh anymore. Thanks, that's really useful to know. I just came ac...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hmm - have just realised that a) I meant 'modprobe fh'. I knew 'fb' was wrong... b) of course, (or at least I presume), fh.ko module or whatever won't be available under Mint Linux. So the only environment for doing this under would be if (say) I could get this Joggler booting into one of the native...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete Personally I think if there is some piece of the EFI flash that is messed up then for whatever reason it'll not boot the native OS on the 1Gb flash MMC. I have seen that a few times on the forum. IE: where the native OS doesn't boot; but an externally loaded OS via USB always boots. Then the...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete brief reply to one of your points: DD'ing the whole of the MMC chip or just partition by partition should also work. [/quote] FWIW I tried this (partition by partition) - saved the MBR and each partition as a separate image, and then restoring each individually. Then I decided that a complet...

Re: Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi Pete Thanks for this - as it happens I ordered some flash chips via eBay from HK; should be here soon-ish. But: I'm now thinking it can't be the EFI chip, I think this Joggler has now become one of those that Roobarb mentions that have a valid flash image, but that won't boot from it, for unknown...

Reflashing and/or EFI chip revisited
Hi there This is probably going over old ground, but possibly with a new slant. I have a Joggler which I ued to be able to reflash with Roobarb's image, and also with PnP III, fine. Now, after some USB-related hardware mods (although I think this is coincidence) it has problems. Basically, with a 'w...

Re: jogglers for sale only have 4 left
Hi there - just a note to say I bought one of peo1's Jogglers and it arrived safely and promptly. Have only powered it up but all looks well.
Hope that's of use in case anyone else is thinking of buying one...
Cheers, Jon N
