Re: Laptop battery explosion
Pete, I think I'd be sh*tting bricks if I was on a burning plane.

Re: Laptop battery explosion
If my laptop bursts into flames, at least I won't have a life ending fall from 35,000ft. The 787 Dreamliner has been grounded because of the fires caused by the Li-ion batteries.

Ha ha, yes. I just saw the Windows licence sticker..... But I'm gonna guess the laptop was running Linux.

Re: Coreboot and SeaBIOS
No problem Tom, glad you got it all sorted. I'm having to give advice from my patchy memory as all my Joggler stuff is in storage or backed up and I have a new laptop! I remember doing the bootsect stage myself, but perhaps it's not always necessary. I wonder if it needs admin privileges or if UAC s...

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Yes, the same is possible with VNC. useful if you're installing something like iTunes which has one dialogue box bigger than the Joggler's screen. If you wanted a quick and easy way to change resolutions on the fly, you can setup a shortcut to: c:\progra~1\nircmd\nircmd.exe setdisplay 1280 1024 32 ...

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Shame about the hdd... Have you looked to see if there is an updated firmware at the manufacturers website. Long shot. As for the limited screen res, you can VNC into the Joggler from another pc over the network, then change the screen res to something like 1024x768. The Joggler screen can't display...

Re: Coreboot and SeaBIOS
It's not too difficult to unpatch XP. NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR in the root of the boot drive need to be replaced with the 'copy' versions that I kept there. You will also need to do the same with windows\system32\drivers\vga.sys. Depending on whether you mind keeping the old EFI partition, or if you want...

Re: my obsession with tiny gadgets
I have Sinclair regret... I had a Speccy 48K+, the one with the proper keyboard. I swapped it for a CB radio. WTF was I thinking? In amongst the detritus I have packed away is a Nintento SNES, which I really should have brought with me to my dad's house to keep me entertained. It's modded to play US...

Re: Wireless issue?
Wireless seemed to be unreliable for me, but I put that down to my particular network and the number of wireless devices already in the house. It was so unreliable, infact that I bought powerline adapters for PCs and games consoles around the house or used cabled connections where it was practical. ...

Re: laptop battery explosion
Wow, that's crazy scary! Very quick thinking and bravery saved your house and family. My last laptop had a battery recall, but my battery serial number wasn't listed. I replaced it when it stopped holding a charge, but that was more out of convenience than safety. I knew that Li-ion batteries are a ...

In the future, if things ever get tight I can afford a bit of cash to help keep things afloat - not a lot, but something!! Just means I'll have to avoid the Big Issue seller for a while.

Re: Coreboot and SeaBIOS
Yes Tom, the switch to Coreboot/SeaBIOS will knock a good amount off the total boot time. The EFI takes a lot longer to do it's thing before XP even starts it's boot.

Re: Windows RT
Well the HD2 is an ARM based phone and Windows RT is written to run on ARM. The Joggler has an Intel Atom X86 processor, so RT is not an option.... However, look on the CoreBoot/SeaBIOS thread, where you will see that we've had the full version of Windows 8 running on the Joggler. Due to the screen ...

Re: Is this a problem with the EFI chip?
This might not be the news you want to hear on you Christmas holidays, but we've seen a few of these wrong power supply stories and I've yet to see one that ended well for the user. It sounds like the screen may be salvageable, but I suspect a fried motherboard.

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Perhaps there's something related to the HDD hardware/firmware that is causing the slowdown... perhaps in the drive's USB2.0 backwards compatibility? Do you use the same USB cable on both drives? Just guesses now. :) There are a few developments that have come to light since I 'finished' XP on the J...
