Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)

OK, I tried it again with the btrfs Xubuntu image downloaded from the exotica website and I still get no sound from squeezeplay?
Anything I can check?
My /etc/asound.conf is like below:
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm {
type hw
card 0
}
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}

Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)

The solely squeezeplay jogglers tend to only be used intermittently. The bedside one, again, is only used for a few hours at a time. I can't believe the cpu is too stressed decoding mp3, which is it's main purpose. I occasionally use xbmc to playback captured TV. I have played back an hours or so an...

Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)

Thanks. It's great there is so much activity on alternative OS for the joggler. On most of mine I use squeezeplay, either continually or from time to time. My bedside joggler is still running on UNR 9.10 (!) but is doing (most) things I want it to do. I am searching for a good "baseline" O...

roobarb! wrote:Could well be that it's something I've not taken into account with SqueezePlay - there's only been some pretty rudimentary testing with desktop versions of Precise, so it could be anything!
I'll test again with the "official" image buzz has just updated to his site.

Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)

sorry, I made a mistake (such is the way managing too many images really!) - should be ok now. I'll go and test squeezeplay. I can't rule out that I didn't break something. apologies if I did. Ok, thanks, downloading now. Yep, I know the feeling with so much going on. Cheers for your images. John

Cheers Roobarb - having a play with this now!

I can confirm that the SSH install does work ok, once leaving it for a good 15mins or so.

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

When I have come to it, squeezeplay is not running and the Ubuntu update manager is on display - related? I can also see that it is always about 08:06 in the morning? Is this when the update manager runs? It sounds to me like the update manager is running and pushing SqueezePlay into the background...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

Well, the audio seems to have settled down. No chipmunks and no stuttering/beatbox! What has happened though for the least 3 mornings is that I have found squeezeplay had stopped on the joggler I leave on all the time (turning "off" squeezeplay each night). When I have come to it, squeezep...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

Yep, working great here too on V1.43. My podcasts and additional speech are back working again, with default audio setting. Fingers crossed to see how it behaves for an extended period.

The updater makes it so easy to update.

Much appreciated.

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

Having run with mrw's new simple asound.conf all night, it would appear that it is indeed the panacea I've been looking for. Resampling is working and it survived the night. So, there's an update! Version 1.43 is out now, with the new asound.conf_simple and an updated JogglerAudio applet that allow...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

Don't bother messing with these files yourselves now - just go and grab the new version with Settings > Update. :) You'll find the ability to switch between mixer and direct output under Settings > Audio Settings > Interface Configuration > Software Mixer. cheers roobarb. This will make it a lot ea...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

oggie - am away from home at the moment but from memory it is in /usr/share/alsa.

Roobarb - have i missed a trick here. Is there an asound.conf in /etc that is used instead of the one in /opt/squeezeplay.

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

Just checked the episodes and the ones that work ok are at 44100Hz but the troublesome ones (most of them) are at 22050Hz. Episodes that worked before (at 22050) no longer work, with either asound.conf. Will keep digging but something else must have changed. Possibly a daft suggestion, but after sw...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

eek, it's now happening on some of my podcasts. Strangely, within the same podcast feed most work but a few don't, giving the chipmunk effect. They look like they are all encoded the same (as I would imagine all episodes of a single podcast feed to be) at 64kbps CBR mp3. It is consistent in that the...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

The chipmunks are back in town! Since upgrading to V1.40 and then V1.41 I get chipmunk speech in some instances. Streaming BBC radio and podcasts is ok but I have a plugin that sends mp3 files to the current playlist, as a way of interrupting current playback to make a voice announcement. These anno...

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

Hi Roobarb,

I have done the built-in upgrade and worked a treat on my two in-use jogglers. What a great feature.
Screensavers now working fine, thanks.

Cheers,
John

Re: SqueezePlay for Joggler (Standalone Native and Ubuntu)

I get similar errors about not updating binaries because already upto date. And the screen savers seemed messed up. I also have the Digital Clock (Black) and it just shows black text (on usual background) along the left hand edge of the screen in small black font, about the same size as text in the...
