Re: Ubuntu / Xubuntu for the O2 Joggler.
I have been contemplated doing a 16.04 build a few times but problems with the soddin GMA 500 has put me off. I think the situation basically consigned the poor jogglers (and few other odd bits of hardware that are unfortunate enough to be infected with them) to a life in the past. I have 4 of them,...

Re: SSD experiments
I didn't read that thoroughly so I may have missed something but it seemed as if a number of the steps involve restoring and booting the stock firmware purely to use the fh module for reading/writing flashing the EFI image. Just want to mention that any linux install can be used to both read and wri...

Re: SSD experiments
also interested in this - less so the WOL capabilities as my jogglers are always on but the MAC address thing is annoying in that whenever I bother to update the system on them I have to take care of preserving it or amending my dhcp reservations. flashrom lists a nicrealtek programmer which doesn't...

Re: Touchscreen event trouble
Hi, Thanks for the feedback , however already covered those. I had done a screen calibration as it was slightly out by default. evtest is what lead me to find the mouse3 emulation behaviour in xorg config - as it runs at a lower level on the device node - /dev/input/event0 for the jogglers TS and in...

Re: SSD experiments
Sure - was actually easy to host a video than a photo so here goes..

This joggler (I have 4 ) has a couple of other mods too, additional 2 USB ports and FW hack (replaced O2 logo)
Any queries just ask.

Re: SSD experiments
I've managed to hardwire a 32GB msata SSD to one the tiny usb-sata adaptors using a chopped up length of SATA cable and squeeze the whole lot inside the joggler - needs a bit of work as the screen won't quite go on atm but think should be possible with a bit of effort.

Touchscreen event trouble
Any body else noticed the touchscreen doesn't work quite right? I've always found it to be a bit finicky but am currently working on a touchscreen friendly mpd client based on pyqt/QML. I noticed the flickable behaviour doesn't always work - in fact hardly ever works. I found this is because the &qu...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
I keep replying to myself! but maybe my comments are useful! Just on a hunch i decided to install and try flashrom on joggler - it identifies the chip and successfully reads it :) - i suspect that write will work also. EDIT : Write can be made to work with the current flashrom version (0.9.5.2) - in...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
The one that failed had been running from a USB its entire life - thought it was odd that it would have failed in that setup - but just checked the usb /etc/fstab entry and spotted this /dev/mmcblk0p1 none swap sq 0 0 Ooops! roasted. I actually cant imagine it ever needed to use swap space as it did...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Yes, i suspect that may be difficult. I have not tried swapping the EFI chip yet - but I have run my script on another joggler and on this one it (nearly) works - at east the emmc hasn't died on me. Just need to check my debootstrap options as apt-get and ifconfig have not been installed which means...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Ah yes, that pesky fh module - had forgotten about that one - I never did find any source for that . Guess i'll have to swap the chips. I could reflash the original fw to one of my other working ones if it does turn out to be corrupt EFI but suspect something has gone awry with the emmc itself .

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Feeling fairly confident the re-partitioning can't have been the cause i tried same on another joggler which has rebooted fine. Both of these 2 have been on permanantly since new so maybe just tired emmc chip which failed. I have an older version of ubuntu booted on the 2nd one atm which won't allow...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Any body know much about emmc? I had just about got my script to a point where it would work when update-initramfs started chucking segfaults and invalid operations - suspected something had got too hot and so went for a shutdown, cool down, restart. Upon reboot (from USB) kernel chucks the below an...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Okay - i managed to make it work. The problem i was having was when pasting script copied from a website. It looked fine in the editor, but after pressing submit it would all show up on one line. Going back to the editor all the newlines had been removed so everything i had pasted was on one long li...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
I made a start - but the infuriating behavoir of mediawiki has driven me to abandon it for now - really i have to go out now, but it is very frustrating. It seems impossible to paste a block of text without it stripping all the news lines out and putting everything on one line. Presently reverted to...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Yeh interesting. wanted to play with aufs before but its for devices like /dev/mmc not usb block - and I never really wanted to mess with the internal flash. Well worthly of a wiki entry if you are up for it :) Ok - I'll make a start - would be good if anyone who tries to follow it can amend mistak...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Woohoo! Mission accomplished. Had to fiddle around a bit getting the emgd,r8168 and initramfs to work (set mac , include ifconfig, modprobe.d/joggler.conf et al) but i now have a joggler booting into my custom GUI from internal/emmc flash on a volatile/read-only rootfs using the aufs patches. Thanks...

Re: Ubuntu joggler kernel
Hi, sorry not had a chance to work on this for some time. I had no problems finding your patchset. I could not find the kernel source to apply the patches too. I'm assuming its a ubuntu patched kernel I need and not just the vanilla kernel from kernel.org. The only Ubuntu kernels that are listed as ...
