Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Years ago mentioned here that I tried successfully using a Crystal HD mini PCiE card for use with the OpenFrame 2. Only difficult piece is opening the Openframe 2 (speakers in front) and using an external USB WLAN / Bluetooth card in the back. You can though DIY a top USB port for the WLAN stick if ...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Update 28th of November, 2019 O2 Joggler is stable and rebooting fine with Andy's new build. What I want to do is update my current Squeezeplayers (running on O2's with old Ubuntu builds) to most current build. These (4-5) have been fine now and very stable for a couple of years. I was monitoring t...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Rebooted a few times and left O2 on with screensaver. Working well. I tried to install Webmin and keep running out of space and it stops right before it finishes. I have removed the apt cache in fstab and created a small memory cache and still having issues. No biggie. Might do the hot swap of ROM o...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

The O2 Joggler that I am playing appears to be one that I have never touched much as the MAC address is: root@openframe:/usr/local/sbin# ethtool -P eth0 Permanent address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 Bathroom Squeezeplayer (Trusty) running with Avaya boot EFI. root@ICS-Jog-SQP-18:~# ethtool -P eth0 Permanent ...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

It's been a while that I tested the xXx Kodi such that I do not recall if I tested it on an O2 Joggler, OF1 or OF2 here. Googling some I see that KODI utilizes around 200Mb. If you do the basic installation on a OF2, expand it. It should fit fine on the OF2. So then try it...install xorg and then do...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Wrote the new OS on the O2 Joggler. Updated it and rebooted it a couple of times. root@openframe:~# uname -a Linux openframe 5.3.12op #1 Thu Nov 21 04:51:07 GMT 2019 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux Then went to check the first EFI boot partition and see this: root@openframe:~# sudo tune2fs -c 1 /dev/mmcblk...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Found a mothballed O2 Joggler here with the label still on guessing that I have never taken it apart. Ran the upgrade USB boot stick. I saw it running FSCK on first boot. I booted it again and it did not run FSCK. Previously tested O2 Joggler has been labeled to replace boot EFI ROM chip. Can't find...

Re: Cisco Cius/OpenPeak OpenTablet 7

Wow got the rear of the case off. It is all metal, thin and some sharp edges to it. There are four tiny torx screws that you can see. One tiny Philips screw that holds the upper part of the back of the case that covers the camera. Tricky part is that there is a hidden torx screw under the SIM cover ...

Re: Cisco Cius/OpenPeak OpenTablet 7

Have to find a tiny torx screwdriver.

I looked at the FCC ID pictures of the internals and they are way too blurry. So best to just take it apart.

Specs indicated 8 hours up time on the rechargable battery. Real experience indicates maybe an hour of up time on battery.

Re: Cisco Cius/OpenPeak OpenTablet 7

Looks like Cisco locked this tablet down. Googling see that no one ever rooted it. It is a different chip set than the O2, Openpeak1-2 devices. Will not boot off of the SD card or USB stick. I can use the USB cable to telnet to the device (via Cisco docs) and configure the tablet to work with SSH. T...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Wireless works with the simple desktop. That said give this a try for command line wireless. 1 - sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces 2 - add this: auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wpa-ssid {ssid} wpa-psk {password} 3 - save and close nano 4 - sudo dhclient wlan0 If the above doesn't work there are mor...

Re: Cisco Cius/OpenPeak OpenTablet 7

I am impressed. Product is new. Two boxes. One "media" dock and the other tablet. It is the Openpeak tablet announced at some show a few years back. Note these are sold new on some current sites for around $800. It boots up to Android. There is a SIM card slot and a SD card slot. Mini USB port. The ...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

Dunno why but the build wouldn't stand up to reboots for me scrambling the internal 1Gb or 2Gb eMMC. Thought it was a bad eMMC then updated it with old build and its been fine with constant testing reboots 1-14 days after installation. Am going to try a build and not touch it keeping it at a command...

Re: Windows 7 Embedded Standard

No matter what drivers I used when building Windows 7 always ended up with BSOD's. Windows 8.1 Embedded and Windows 10 lite did work but was way too slow to be practical. Actually mostly leaving the Windows world these days as Windows 10 is mostly glutinous eye candy. Relating to automation here run...
