Re: Joggler as accurate flip clock

Thanks for the link sourcing! Since it's ICS (Android 4.4) it's not going to be much better than what I managed to get on the Nook (which is Android 2.1 internally, but managed to boot to Cyanogen 11, which is ICS link ) and the Flip-7 app that runs on that, isn't the greatest... no seconds, no date...

Re: Joggler as accurate flip clock

That app is ZenFlipClock which after trying most in the Play Store, seemed to be the best, for free ;-) I've been pretty sucessful with Ubuntu on the Joggler due to roobarb! and his great builds. Is there an Android build where the download works? All the links in here are dead :( I've just found a ...

Joggler as accurate flip clock

Hey all, I've previously used old Android tablets for this but I also like to use them as Google Photo digital photo frames (using the Fotoo app, highly recommended) so I was wondering if the ol' Joggler could make an attractive flip (or nixie) clock? Anyone any ideas of which setup (open frame or A...

Re: Ubuntu Bionic for OpenFrame

How do you turn off / extend the auto-off of the screen when in console/TTY mode?

Thanks for all your help with my Joggler via Twitter, Andy. Much appreciated and glad it's all sorted now!

Spam PMs

I've started getting spam bots PM'ing me through this forum.
Phpbb is a bit of a target for this, I used to run a phpbb forum and suffered the same.

Admins, you might need to look at your registration challenges.

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

Nicely done. A step-by-step guide to getting this up and running would be awesome. Are you using SqueezePlay in its entirety, or SqueezeLite as a background task? I'm using it with the full as-supplied-by-Andy SqueezePlay, as it's housed in a cupboard to the side of the bathroom, so it's easy to po...

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

Just an update on my Joggler running SqOS - loving it!! I have it as my 'central server' with a 1.5TB hard-drive attached via USB and booting from a 16GB USB stick I installed inside the Joggler, replacing the WiFi. It replaces my Raspberry Pi which was my 'central server' and has proven so much qui...

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

Ah, perfect - having a look, I presume it's boot.nsh

Code: Select all

fs1:grub
fs0:grub
Swap those around, and reboot and it'll boot from the internal, yeah?
Then a script on the internal SqOS to get it swap it back once the backup is done...

Would be quite neat :)

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

roobarb! , theoretical question... I have SqOS running on a 16gb stick which I've installed inside the Joggler in the wifi card slot. Is it possible, without pulling the joggler apart, the reboot the Joggler and boot from the internal eMMC memory temporarily? Would be handy so that I could have ano...

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

Probably a question for Andy, the author, rather than me.
But I suspect so.

My NTFS drive didn't auto-mount, so I had to use fstab.
But it's permanently attached, and I knew all the settings from my previous server, which was a Raspberry Pi (which my Joggler has replaced).

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

Perhaps I should have said "mounted as root", apologies. I'm aware of Linux's security in mind, however, security is pointless if you have to constantly override it (and get an elevated power that you shouldn't use frequently) in order to perform a task of little to no risk. This is a cust...

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

roobarb! wrote:This will always be the same - unless you've got root privileges, you can't mess with the system files. Only things in your user area.
But why is an auto-mounted external FAT32 drive mounted to root. Surely it would make more sense to be owned by the user "joggler"?
Just curious :-)

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

Glad you've sorted it. Seems the auto-mount for FAT32 is far more trouble than it's worth! Had none of these issues with my manually mounted NTFS drive! Ah well - hope the settings stick and it all works. The Joggler as a server is absolutely perfect. This build is genius work and the hardware is gr...

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

is it back to the drawing board? Not quite - I think you're just missing what people are telling you. Sounds like WinSCP will be fine for you if you can configure it, so follow these steps: In WinSCP, open up the Site Manager (or if you've just opened it, this is the first screen you see). Edit the...

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

How have you mounted it? Did it do it automatically or did you add it to fstab ?
Actually never worked with FAT32 under Linux as the 4Gb is too limiting for me so have always used ext4 or NTFS! :-)

Re: SqueezePlay OS (Version 2) for OpenFrame

What file system is on your external HDD? And if it's NTFS, have you installed and setup NTFS-3G or not? (If not - there's your problem - Linux supports NTFS as read only. You need to add NTFS-3G from the apt-get repository and configure the drive to mount using that instead.. Will await your reply ...
