Just to note that jolicloud 1.2 is due out this week according to the jolicloud blog.

I can't say whether updating on the Joggler will be safe - I shall keep you posted.

It's out!

Quite a bit of the interface code seems to have been updated... my jogglers not very stable at the moment so I won't be trying the update. But let us know how it goes.. ;)

I gave this a try a little while ago but I found it quite difficult to close some of the windows, i.e on the browser etc. I didn't find it very finger friendly :-(

a lot of the problem is just the accuracy of the touchscreen - and most likely hardware related. I find jolicloud much more touch friendly than plain ubuntu though for example.

There are instructions on how to write it to a usb stick on the main jolicloud page if that's what you mean.

Sorry I meant is it just a straight forward plug in the usb and reboot or does it need tweaking for the joggler?

http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/jolicloud/ contains jolicloud for the joggler - ie. it is made to run on the joggler from a usb stick etc. there are additional tweaks you can make detailed under instructions on that page also. Cheers

Joli OS v1.2 (renamed from jolicloud). is now available for the joggler. As it is using a new kernel as with my other new builds, there may be a few bugs (I saw an xorg crash during testing that I'm keeping an eye on, but mostly it seems fine)

changes:

* New version of Joli OS (v1.2) - see http://www.jolicloud.com/blog/2011/03/0 ... jolicloud/
* Upgraded to kernel 2.6.37.3
* Backported btrfs with lzo compression for much better performance with compressed btrfs
* /proc/sys/vm changes for better performance running from a flash device

tried 1.2 and experienced a couple of desktop crashes allready. One issue bothering me is that I can not find a way to change any settings like in jolicloud 1.1, screen calibration being one of the settings. Furthermore I no longer (after syncronizing my account ) have no local apps folder on desktop. Therefore starting squeezeplay is possible only using "find app/friends" from desktop.
Any way, once again, Grazie mille for your really quick actions getting us a new image, Buzz

screen calibration is under local apps. just do "add local app". i will no doubt look into the stability its probably the kernel upgrade, i might drop back perhaps again, but keep the updated btrfs. I still have my local apps so im not sure how you lost that. that could be a joli os bug perhaps.

is local apps part of default 1.2? Did you put squeezeserver/player in your image?

I updated straight my jolicloud 1.1, your 1.0 version to jolicloud 1.2. I now have my local apps and local settings back. I do not have a usb keyboard so I can only log in as guest. Any way of changing this modifying some file using terminal to log in as joggler? Furthermore do you still have 1.1 versions I could download?

the 1.2 version has modifications other than just upgrading the files though, there are files you can edit to enable auto login (you can just choose it from the settings in jolicloud even), but I would suggest trying 1.2 again and seeing if it was a temporary glitch.

To log in automatically on device, look in user settings on jolicloud, or go to /etc/jolicloud-displaymanager/ there is a config value in there. you will still have lost some other changes related to cpu governor etc though although it probably doesnt matter too much. 1.1 is still online I think for example http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/img/jolic ... com.img.gz

I installed 1.1, version 1.4.. The updated html5 desktop, automatically new one in 1.1 too, breaks easily (jolicloud pages, wait/kill). Seems like the updates of joli(cloud/os) do not favor Joggler.

spotify is a jolicloud issue. you can fix it by running it as root and letting it do the upgrade. then it should work. once they update their package it will fix itself.

I have a update on the way anyway with a few improvements. works well for me. Do you run with a modded/heatsink joggler or are you modifying the throttle limit ?

I use the throttling thermal limit thing. I'm about to transfer my memory stick from 4GB to 8GB. I was trying to find the instructions how to use rsync and pc. Could you please list instructions to copy 4GB boot and root contents to pc and back to a bigger memory stick. I'll wait for your updated image before applying rsync thing though
by the way you have one year old date in your joli os image on exotica download pages

something like

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
[ "$1" == "" ] && exit
read -p "Sync from USB stick to $1 (y/n)?"
[ "$REPLY" == "y" ] || exit
mount /dev/sdb3 /mnt
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/boot
rsync -av --numeric-ids --delete /mnt/ $1
umount /mnt/boot /mnt
and

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
[ "$1" == "" ] && exit
read -p "Sync from $1 to USB Stick (y/n)?"
[ "$REPLY" == "y" ] || exit
mount /dev/sdb3 -o compress=lzo,ssd_spread /mnt
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/boot
rsync -av --numeric-ids --delete $1 /mnt/
umount /mnt/boot /mnt
change mount options to suit.
