offbeatdave,

Looking to install PNP3 on the one of the Openframe 2 boxes. That said just noticed that if I boot up in the original "energy" OpenPeak OS I cannot telnet to it although I can ping the IP address. Going very slow with this endeavor.

If I set up your last USB with script for PnP3 and cold boot with it without a network connection; will the device run the script and provide telnet/pnp3 access?

I don't think it will auto run on the OpenFrame unit as it is at the moment.

Thanks offbeatdave.

Right now the specfic OpenFrame2 does auto run whatever OS USB stick I utilize to cold boot from. This "energy" or "utilites" box has a very limited OS.

I am going really slow with this though guessing here that the EFI flash chip is soldered into place; not really wanting to brick the device at this time.

offbeatdave,

Decided instead today to play with the "telco" Openframe hub. I noticed that the default DNS no longer exists which made it a bit safer to play with. That and I gave it a local IP with no gateway address. I can telnet into this one with just root and no password access.

Noticed that it is or appears to be very stripped down; almost as if there were pieces removed such that all that would function would be the OpenPeak GUI.

Here I DD's and wrote the EFI boot over to a USB stick.

That said do you think running your PnP3 script would trash what is working right now?

I'd be tempted to pop anything you want to add from PnP manually, rather than running the script. I know when I first tried to run the script on mine last summer it didn't like it and I had to reflash the OS.

I've just installed roobarb's custom clean OS on mine via his reflasher and that seems to work fine (although I will probably have to resize a partition to fill the 2Gb as opposed the Joggler's 1Gb)

Thank you offbeatdave.

So you updated your OpenFrame II device with roobarb's newest OS?

Is it this one?

http://birdslikewires.co.uk/articles/openpeak-firmware

Here then to be safe backing up (DDing) the EFI boot, the four partitions currently on the Openframe II (on the really hacked up Telco hub) first.

It looks almost my newest Openframe II was stripped of any functionality. I thought coming with a DECT phone it would show up. The DECT phone pairs up right away with the device; but the OS is devoid of any phone stuff and icons. Looking at it via telnet; it looks to be like it was removed manually; hack like leaving me with a kind of empty shell of an OS with a GUI that works but doesn't do anything.

offbeatdave,

So I updated the newly aquired Openframe box with Roobarb's newest FW after backing everything up.

Booted right up just fine. I get sound but it is very low. I also noticed that it appears that the previous owner might have priored the speaker cover off; not sure; there are marks all over it though.

I just checked the time on the hardware clock and it is keeping time just fine. I have now unplugged and plugged it in a few times.

So now all I need is your PnP 3 script / USB stick to add some stuff to the base build.

Next also connecting second USB port on the top of the device such that I have two outside ports for the time being.

Him. I've got no sound at all with roobarb's image.

I am getting clicks and pops is what I have noticed (I thought it was sound before). When I do an lspci or lsusb I do not see the devices right now.

I am now testing playing back a youtube video and there is no sound.

I also tried to change the IP to a static IP and it went back to DHCP.

Changed the boot such that it reads the hardware clock and sets the software clock.

Here is the asound.conf

Code: Select all

pcm.my_card {
  type hw
  card 0
  # mmap_emulation true
}

pcm.dmixed {
  type dmix
  ipc_key 1024
  # ipc_key_add_uid false # let multiple users share
  # ipc_perm 0666 # IPC permissions for multi user sharing (octal, default 0600)
  slave {
    pcm "my_card"
      rate 48000
      period_size 512
  }
}

pcm.dsnooped {
  type dsnoop
  ipc_key 2048
  slave {
    pcm "my_card"
    #   rate 48000
    #   period_size 128
  }
}

pcm.asymed {
  type asym
  playback.pcm "dmixed"
  #capture.pcm "dsnooped"
}

pcm.pasymed {
  type plug
  slave.pcm "asymed"
}

pcm.dsp0 {
  type plug
  slave.pcm "asymed"
}

pcm.!default {
  type plug
  slave.pcm "asymed"
}

Oh poo. I've now managed to make SQP and Radio hang. Time to retrace steps and see how I've messed it up.
Sound issue is odd though as it all worked with the original OpenFrame software. Perhaps it needs a different driver. Will have to have a dig through the files to see when get a mo.

There is no frame2-snd nor is there an alsa sound directory; just the core,pci and usb sound directories.

Looking at the set up for sound here:

Code: Select all

echo "Setting up ALSA drivers (frame 2)"

   if [ -d /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/kernel/sound/frame2-snd ]; then
     rm -rf /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/kernel/sound/core
     rm -rf /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/kernel/sound/pci
     rm -rf /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/kernel/sound/usb

     mv /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/kernel/sound/frame2-snd \
        /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/kernel/sound/alsa

     NEED_RESTART="yes"
   fi

   modprobe snd-hda-codec-idt
   modprobe snd-hda-intel
   modprobe snd-mixer-oss
   modprobe snd-pcm-oss
   modprobe snd-usb-audio

Was that asound.conf from the original Openframe OS or from roobarb's? I've just reflashed again and even YouTube hangs for me.

I rewrote the Openframe OS with roobarb's newest wares. So it is not the original Openframe OS anymore as far as I can tell.

I reset the IP for the energy hub Openframe2 just to see if I could telnet to it. I cannot. I do have a copy of the partitions there too.

I've just used the small OpenPeak reflasher and again, no sound.
Driver issue?

Edit: Just having one last fiddle for tonight. Will then have to reflash to OpenFrame and have a look at drivers I think.

I'm thinking maybe.

The openframe 2 boxes I have that are in the regular Joggler case do have two sound devices; one listed as a USB device. I forgot; there is also some modem device on those.

Have a good night there offbeatdave. I did a quick check here and see:

For kicks booted up using an XP stick. Time was read from the hardware controller and it was right. It saw a blue tooth device and the network card came right up. It appears to be a different one than the one in the Joggler.

I did redo the update with same said firmware with the same result of no audio.

I'm guessing right now if I restored the original EFI parition that I would maybe be OK relating to the audio?

I did have an issue restoring one of the Jogglers with the original EFI pieces a couple of days back. The DD restoral seemed to hang for an excessively long time. (I was though doing this remotely via SSH).

My work around (it worked for me) was to update the partition with the seabios and use the functionality built into the bios to restore the EFI pieces.

I'm going back to my original openframe image which is basically like the open peak joggler set up anyway for now as most things are hanging for me as well as no sound.
